Make sure you have access to both your password and recovery phrase before following the instructions below.


Please note we strongly recommend that users remember or write down passwords/recovery phrases and keep them in a safe space.


To restore your wallet, please follow the instructions below: 

Windows users:

  • Close uTorrent/Bittorrent.
  • Verify there are no uTorrent/BitTorrent processes running in Task Manager. End any remaining processes
  • Open File Explorer and type in %AppData% (You may need to go one level up until you get to AppData > Local)
  • Locate the "wallet.log" file and copy/save the information somewhere else
  • Find the BitTorrent Helper folder and delete it
  • Upgrade your torrent client to the newest version available
  • Launch your torrent client
  • Go to Speed and walk through the welcome screens again
  • Click on Import when you are offered the option to Import your wallet
  • Use your previously-stored Recovery Phrase or the Private Key to import your wallet

Your balances should be restored within a few seconds.

Mac users:

  • Stop your torrent clients that use Speed from running
  • Launch Finder
  • Press combination: CMD + Shift + “.” on your keyboard
  • You should start seeing hidden files
  • Navigate to Users > “your user name” > Library > Application Support > BitTorrent OR BitTorrent Web
  • Find the BitTorrent Helper folder and delete it
  • Upgrade your torrent client to the newest version available
  • Launch your torrent client
  • Go to Speed and walk through the welcome screens again
  • Click on Import when you are offered the option to Import your wallet
  • Use your previously-stored Recovery Phrase or the Private Key to import your wallet

Your wallet will then be restored, however transaction history will be removed.
